Remembering Their Sacrifices

The military is all too familiar to me. Although I’ve never been enlisted, I’m closely connected as a wife, daughter and sister of those who serve or who have served. The daily sacrifices made by those individuals and their families do not go unnoticed. It is a mission of mine to bring the colors of our flag back into everyday life, and to spread the type of pride that’s associated with the freedoms of this great country not only during Holidays and special occasions, but every day.

A few years ago I received a card that holds the power to change lives. It was the size of a business card, and on it was a simple Thank You to the dedicated individuals, and their families, who have served. By the time I had received this card, the gentleman I received it from, Richard Glasgow (who is the founder of Dear American Hero), had already introduced over one million of them to appreciative veterans and soldiers still serving our country. The making of these Thank You cards began, with the donations of generous patriots. With continued support, there are now more than three million of these Thank You cards in circulation today. Everyone who participates in handing out these cards is full of stories of servicemen, women, and family members who have been touched by its message.

I was so inspired by these cards that I began thinking about what I could do to encourage patriotism and love for our country. What I wanted was to create a message to remind Americans that everyday, people who serve, are missing things like the birth of a child, graduations, anniversaries, birthdays, and all of the small daily events that bring us smiles. I wanted to create a message that would remind Americans of all the brave veterans who’ve lost loved ones, comrades, and even their own lives. I wanted a message that reminds Americans that living in the United States does not come without the many sacrifices of those hard at work, supporting and fighting for the freedoms of this country, every day.

This simple thank you message has now been embroidered on different articles of clothing, patches, coins, note cards and more. It’s proudly displayed on denim tops, polo shirts, sweatshirts, wind shirts, and fleece jackets to remind us of all who serve, or who have served proudly in our Armed Forces. It’s a simple way to outwardly express your appreciation and gratitude towards these brave men and women. By wearing one of these patriotic items, it’s an easy way to say “Thank You,” without ever having to actually say it.

Join us in making a difference and touch a heart of a brave American. Let us not take for granted, for one moment, the things that make this country so wonderful. So today, share an act of kindness. Take a moment out of your busy day to thank someone who has sacrificed many moments of their life, to ensure the freedom and safety of you and your family.

~ To everyone who has been a supporter of this mission for the past three years, THANK YOU! Your patriotism, gift shops and museums have made it possible to continue to share such wonderful products. ~

Our Greatest Generation

"This Date Shall Live In Infamy"

Men and boys Rushed to answer the call.

Education put on hold.

Families disrupted, weddings postponed.

By the thousands, boarded trains

To training camps that taught how to kill.

Shipped overseas to places unknown.

stormed beaches, more than a few,

Sand would steal their blood.

Many soared up with fame, then down in flames.

Others sloshing through snow and mud.

Letters from home, news of a birth

Of a son or daughter to grow up

In a home without a father.

We shall not and we dare not forget

Pearl Harbor, Bataan, Anzio, Tarawa,

Midway, Normandy, Iwo Jima,

Battle of the Bulge, to name a few.

Too Many Gave their supreme sacrifice

Upon the altars of freedom.

They saved the world for us to enjoy.

Truly they are our "Greatest Generation."
